Several hypotheses try to give the origin of the name of Meuilley: either a wet place, or a relation with "muid", ie the measurement of wheat, the grounds being very fertile. Other studies note that Meuil- is perhaps a derivative of "manse", these houses with pottery land around (formerly medieval term to delimit habitats and make them a property tax accordingly).
The upper Meuzin valley (first class fish river) opens here.
Meuilley has long had a leprosarium that the construction of the Hospices de Nuits suppressed.
The church was rebuilt in the 19th century, on the site of the previous (15th century inscription preserved).
